Loading... Please wait...The Atlantic Water Gardens Triton Ionizer is a relatively new piece of technology to the pond market. The goal behind this device is to release positive ions into the water, thus 'mineralizing' the water. Mineralized water is naturally more resilient to pesky organic growth like string algae. String algae has long been one of the main problems pond owners face. Even with proper biological filtration and maintenance, string algae can become an issue in a pond.
We should point out that string algae is not the same thing as green pond water. Green water is usually caused by single celled algae that can be controlled with a UV clarifier. To learn more, please read our page here on green pond water. String algae is something different, and before this device was introduced, there was never a good way to get rid of it without regular treatments of barley straw or various chemicals.
How it works - The Triton Ionizer features an automatic control panel that sends electrical signals to a metallic probe that over time dissolves into the flowing water. As electricity flows between the two bars that make up the metallic probe, a positive ion is produced, which is washed away by the flowing water. Overtime this process slowly mineralizes the water, which helps prevent organic buildup.
Once dissolved, the metal probes are easily replaced for continued operation. The device contains an indicator that will automatically notify you when the prove needs replacing. Depending on use, this may occur about once every 1 to 2 seasons.
